About the Farm

  • Hacienda La Esmeralda, located in the highlands of Boquete, Panama, is one of the most celebrated coffee farms in the world, renowned for its extraordinary Geisha coffee. Situated at altitudes ranging from 1,600 to 1,800 metres above sea level, the farm benefits from a unique combination of volcanic soil, cool temperatures, and consistent rainfall—conditions that are ideal for producing exceptional specialty coffee.
  • Founded by the Peterson family, Hacienda La Esmeralda has a long history of innovation and dedication to quality. While the farm originally grew traditional coffee varieties, the discovery of the Geisha varietal on their property in 2004 transformed the farm into a global icon of specialty coffee excellence. The Geisha varietal’s complex flavour profile—characterized by floral aromatics, vibrant acidity, and a tea-like body—has since set a gold standard in the coffee industry.
  • The farm is divided into multiple micro-lots, each named after specific sections of the estate, such as "Cañas Verdes," "Jaramillo," and "Mario Carnaval." These lots are meticulously managed to ensure optimal growth conditions, and the coffee cherries are selectively hand-picked at peak ripeness.
