    This coffee delights with its exceptional sweetness, a result of its notably natural low caffeine levels. Within your cup, you'll discover vibrant notes of strawberry and pineapple, accompanied by a pleasant sweet acidity and a lusciously creamy body. The finish is a lingering delight, adorned with hints of tangerine and the gentle fragrance of orange blossom.

    Laurina coffee, a dwarf mutation of Bourbon, carries a fascinating history. Classified in the 1940s, it originates from Réunion Island, situated to the east of Madagascar. Its most distinguishing feature is its remarkably low caffeine content, setting it apart from the coffee norm. However, this unique quality comes with a trade-off, as Laurina is especially vulnerable to leaf rust, dissuading many coffee producers from widespread cultivation. Also known as 'Bourbon Pointu,' it derives its name from the island's former designation, 'Bourbon,' and the unique elongated, pointed shape of its coffee beans.

    A fun fact about Laurina coffee is its tree shape, resembling Christmas trees, adding a touch of charm to its already exceptional character.

    About the Farm

    La Esperanza is under the ownership of siblings Rigoberto and Luis Eduardo Herrera, who hail from a longstanding family deeply rooted in coffee production. They are now third-generation coffee producers, with their family's coffee legacy dating back to 1945 when their grandparents, Juan Antonio Herrera and Blanca Ligia Correa, initiated their coffee journey at the Potosi farm. They started with existing Typica plants and later introduced three more cultivars: Red Bourbon, Yellow Bourbon, and Caturra, marking the establishment of Cafe Granja La Esperanza. Following their grandparents' footsteps, Rigoberto and Luis acquired the land that became Finca La Esperanza and expanded their commitment to organic coffee production.

    La Esperanza is a diverse coffee estate, with numerous coffee varieties cultivated. This farm, the second in their portfolio, spans approximately 35 hectares and features a processing facility where Cerro Azul and La Esperanza coffees are meticulously crafted.

    This lot showcases a highly sought-after coffee variety known as Laurina, or Bourbon Pointu, due to its distinctive teardrop-shaped seed. Laurina is prized for its naturally low caffeine content, vibrant acidity, and delightful sweetness. The Laurina coffee is harvested when the cherries turn purple and is then taken to silos for 48 hours of dehydration. Subsequently, the coffee is spread on raised solar beds for a 15-day drying period.

    Great selection of coffee. Good price for single origin coffee beans. Rosso also provides coffee with fruity notes, which is seldom seen in Vancouver.
